Rod Howes

Six Sigma Australia is headed by Rod Howes, whose role is that of ‘personal coach’ to Leadership groups throughout the Six Sigma deployment, he becomes part of your team with shared responsibility for success, rather than simply being an external advisor.

Rod has over 20 years of experience in the manufacturing industry in quality/productivity roles. Prior to the formation of Six Sigma Australia, he was the Chief Chemist (Qld) for Carlton & United Breweries (makers of Foster’s Lager). Rod held a position as Quality Assurance Manager with SPC (largest fruit canner in the southern hemisphere) followed by an appointment as Technical Services Manager , where he was responsible for QA and R&D.

Approached by AlliedSignal to take on the role of Operational Excellence Manager, Rod was responsible for 4 main areas: Achieve QS9000 certification; introduce Six Sigma training to the manufacturing area; establish an organization-wide metric system; and advise on Company strategic planning. At the successful conclusion of these projects he founded his own six sigma consultancy.

Rod is a results oriented leader in productivity and quality fields with extensive experience in the food and automotive industries. He is formally qualified and experienced in industrial chemistry and has taught chemistry and statistics at both tertiary and secondary levels. Rod has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Graduate Diploma of Education and has completed post graduate studies in the application and teaching of Statistics at the University of Melbourne.

Rod has led major Six Sigma deployments around the world and has personally trained and mentored Executives, Senior Managers, Black Belts, Master Black Belts, and Green Belts in Manufacturing, Transactional and Service sectors for leading international organizations.
